This story plus the one involving NCSoft really highlights something interesting. These Asian countries will likely never have the moral objection to things like AI that people in the West do. So, do we just leave them to have a huge relative advantage in the creation of games?

@ShadowRJ Fingers crossed. Have been resolutely holding off picking it up in a sale since in the hopes of that physical edition.

@SeaDaVie don't be surprised when the west also starts focusing on using AI, all companies focus on one thing profit, so if ai can help them get the product out faster and cheaper than they all will use it. Ai is going to replace us all sadly.

@SeaDaVie Yeah, I made a comment over on the other article and mentioned, among other things, that there does seem to be a cultural difference in Asia regarding the term AI and its usage. It seems actually to carry a positive connotation as these statements from the developers are almost boasting about their adoption of AI. I’m not making a judgment call, just an observation.

It should also be noted that Krafton has pulled some seriously shady moves at Subnautica developer Unknown Worlds. They don't even need AI to come across as the bad guys.

Rhythm music games seem like an ai centric genre. This might be a good fit for the franchise.

@Oram77 @Th3solution @Americansamurai1 @SeaDaVie I think American companies, if not Western companies in general, are also embracing AI in a big way. They are just doing so more covertly, since there seems to be a bigger cultural "stink" on the term.

There's also the problem that because investors want to here the term "AI" as much as they can, many businesses have renamed previous technologies under the AI banner to appease them. So, when you hear companies talk about AI, there's a chance they're not even talking about LLMs or GAI, but rather procedural generation tech or other tech that we've had for a while and didn't have a problem with.

@wildcat_kickz yeah very true. Does make you wonder how big some of these open worlds are going to get with the use of ai.

Saying "we're AI first" is just a way of trying to pump your stock or get investment capital in.

Most companies don't really use it effectively even if they say they do, you can be an "AI first company" and just be using AI to summarise your emails whilst you work there

Out of the frying pan into the fire for Tango huh. If the rumors of EAs AI implementation is anything to go by, it just makes development harder.

Yeah, that’s basically the gist of my long-winded comment on the other article. There’s such a broad range of what is technically “AI” so to either look down on it or praise and boast about are both short-sighted, depending on what is meant by “AI”

I feel bad for Tango Gameworks. They released a game most of the people who played it (including Phil Spencer) but they were out of step with MS’s reorientation so they got the chop. Tango were then bought by another big publisher who has subsequently announced a vision which seems to be incompatible with them.

That publisher's name should be Crapton. But so far they saved the Hi-fi rush IP, so wait and see if the future is made of slop.

@Oram77 What is AI used for the most at the moment? Cutting corners putting out slop. Kids use it to make their papers, used for scamming, fake video and copying art without paying the artists, and it drains power like there is no tomorrow. Its also seems like people see it like a magical tool that creates everything and it comes mostly in the news with by the lack of checking what it says. So far the tool is used for one thing and that is saving money i love the AI not Helpdesk that is useless well its usefull for one thing connecting to a real human that can help me solve the problem.
